2020 was different. Our world was unraveled by that once-in-a-lifetime pandemic. Schools were hit hard. For us, it did not hurt that our DNA is laced with blended learning. Still, it was a challenge for CBA’s class of 2019/20 – to which Marvel Georgehill belonged. She recalls the period with a long sigh and a smile: “it helped make me independent”. 

We would have preferred a lot more in-person learning. So, we were pleased when her mum, from Port Harcourt, told us Marvel had adapted “very fast” to university life – thanks to CBA. 

For someone who loves “to explore, to travel to new places and discover new cultures”, it’s convenient that she chose the University of Debrecen, Hungary – right in the middle of Europe. Landlocked by seven countries, Marvel’s only a train ride away from some cultural superpowers.

So, how else does she unwind? “I love to eat…and to sleep, but, apparently…nursing school doesn’t give me that leverage”.

Moving to a new country can be tough, especially for a student. Marvel is grateful for her time with us in Magodo, which left her knowing exactly what to do and when to do it. 

As for the Ontario curriculum, she loved the emphasis on “research and presentations”. At CBA, she always had “a chance to prove myself intellectually”. For example, she “didn’t like math at all”, even causing her to cry. With the help of our committed teachers, the aspiring nurse “took math very seriously…and…got a very high score!”
